Podcast Episode 1 – Jarian Derrough – A Massage Therapist Who’s Overcome Many Obstacles
The first guest on the Engaging Muscles Podcast is Jarian Derrough, a licensed massage therapist.
A theater major in college, Jarian went many years with the feeling that connecting people with massage therapy was something worth pursuing.
In this episode, Jarian talks about having an inner knowing and the heart to start. Long before he was a licensed massage therapist, many people told him to pursue a career in massage therapy.
On his third attempt at massage school, Jarian knew he had reached a point where he was ready to do what it would take to become a licensed massage therapist. In 2011, he graduated from the Parker University School of Massage Therapy in Dallas, Texas.
Jarian is the owner of Massage By Jarian.
Facing obstacle after obstacle, Jarian continued to chip away at building his client base.
Over time, Jarian got to a point where he had enough leverage to open a massage therapy clinic with enough space to rent rooms to other licensed massage therapists.
Massage by Jarian is in Arlington, Texas. It’s safe, clean, and cozy. Massage therapists can rent a room by the hour. In my mind, it’s an excellent opportunity for any massage practitioner who’s trying to find their way towards having their own space.
Having had many challenges throughout my career as a licensed massage therapist, I can relate to Jarian’s inner knowing.
After our conversation, Jarian and I were surprised at how much time had passed. That’s how easy the conversation flowed. I envisioned Jarian as my first guest, and as I mentioned in this interview – I’m glad I did!
Enjoy the show!

I have held a license to practice massage therapy for thirty years. For eighteen of those years, I was a nationally certified personal trainer. During that time, I completed thousands of one-on-one personalized fitness training sessions. I went on to teach the biomechanics of exercise to personal trainers, group exercise instructors, and physical therapists throughout New England. Teaching exercise biomechanics led to consulting for The Greenbrier, Canyon Ranch, and ESPN, which evolved into providing deep tissue and sports massage for four years at ESPN.
